Overview
Prof. Shashi Pratap Shahi is an Indian academic, researcher, social activist, psephologist and administrator, specializing in Political Science and International Relations. He has taught Political Science at various universities in Bihar since 1990 and has served as Vice Chancellor of Magadh University.
Academic and Administrative Career
Over the course of his career, Prof. Shahi has held positions at Nalanda College (Biharsharif), A. N. S. College (Barh), and A. N. College (Patna) — institutions now affiliated with Patliputra University, established in 2018. He went on to be appointed Vice Chancellor of Magadh University.
As Principal of A. N. College, Patna, he guided the institution through three consecutive 'A' grade accreditations from NAAC, including one cycle with a CGPA of 3.27 out of 4, and the college was granted CPE (College with Potential for Excellence) status by the UGC on three occasions. Before moving to Magadh University, he oversaw submission of the college's Self Study Report for its fourth NAAC cycle, which went on to secure an A+ grade with a CGPA of 3.36 out of 4. Under his tenure (2017 - 2022) the college was also brought into the DBT Star College Scheme. He has additionally served as a member of the Syndicate and other statutory bodies, as well as Assessor and Chairman of visiting team of NAAC.
Research Contributions
Prof. Shahi's research spans India's foreign policy, parliamentary government, democracy, subaltern development, the consequences of ethnic violence, and the relationship between democracy and education. In September 2016, he presented a research paper on inclusive and quality education in Bihar at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He has also presented research papers in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Thailand, and South Korea.
Awards and Recognition
As Principal, he received the Best Principal Award from the Governor of Bihar, and A. N. College, Patna was recognized as the Best College in Bihar by the Governor during his leadership. He has received a number of additional awards from government bodies and academic institutions over the course of his career.
